VirtualBox is a free virtualization package.

With it you can run other (guest) operating systems inside another (host) operating system in a completely virtual environment.

For example, one can run Ubuntu Linux from Windows or vice versa. Guest system can run in a window just like any other program. It's also possible to share clipboard and certain storage devices between host and quest systems.
